PREGNOW Pregnancy Test
Precautions before you begin the test
- Read all the information in this document before performing the test.
- PREGNOW Pregnancy Test is for in vitro diagnostic use only, not for
internal use. It is an individually sealed single use test.
- If the test result is positive you should consult a doctor to confirm
pregnancy. Early pregnancy care is very important to ensure a healthy baby
and mother, and a doctor should be consulted as soon as possible after a
positive result.
- Do not open the protective pouch before you are ready to perform the
test.
- Store the test at room temperature or between 2 - 30' C
- Do not use the test after the expiration date printed on the package.
- Keep out of reach of children.
How does it work?
- By detecting levels of the pregnancy hormone Human Chorionic
Gonadotrophin (hCG) in your urine this test will determine early pregnancy.
HCG is a hormone that is produced soon after conception and progressively
increases during the first three months of pregnancy.
Performing the test
- When you are ready to begin testing, open the sealed pouch by tearing
along the notch. Remove the test device from its foil pouch and use it as
soon as possible.
- Immerse the strip into the urine sample with the arrow end toward the
urine. Do not immerse past the MAX (marked) line. Take the strip out after 5
seconds and lay it on a clean, dry surface.
- Read results as coloured bands appear - refer to diagrams below.
Although positibe results may ppear as early as one minute depending on the
concentration of hCG in urine sample, wait for 5-10 minutes to confirm
negative results. It is important that the background is clear before the
result is read. Results obtained after 10 minutes should be considered
invalid.

Interpretation of results
 |
POSITIVE: In addition to the control band, a pink to red coloured
band also appears in the test region (T). See your doctor to confirm your pregnancy and receive guidance and referrals to an obstetrician. |
 |
NEGATIVE: Only one pink or red coloured band appears in the
control region (C). |
 |
INVALID: Control line fails to appear. Insufficient specimen
volume or incorrect procedural techniques are the most likely reasons
for control line failure. Review the procedure and repeat the test with
a new test strip. |
Pregnancy test limitations
- Medications containing hCG may affect the test result.
- Common drugs such as pain relievers, antibiotics and the contraception
pill should not affect the test result.
- In laboratory trials, PREGNOW Pregnancy Test is highly accurate at more
than 99% in detecting early pregnancy. In rare instances, however false
results (positive when no pregnancy exists or negative when pregnancy is
present) may occur.
- Certain medical conditions such as an ectopic pregnancy or an ovarian
cyst may cause a false result.
- Consult your doctor if you get inconsistent results.
When can I do the pregnancy test?
- You can perform the test from as early as 10 days after the date of
conception. If conception date is not known, then perform the test on the
first day of your missed period. Results of tests carried out before you
missed your period can be affected by the following:
- A negative result before your period is due may only mean that your hCG
level has not risen to a detectable region.
- A positive result before your period is due might not develop in to a
real pregnancy as factors such as spontaneous abortion can occur.
Urine collection
- When testing before your period is due it is recommended to use your
first morning urine.
- If you have missed your period you do not have to use your first morning
urine.
- Collect urine in a clean dry container, and test urine at room
temperature.
What to do if the result is positive?
If the test appears positive the pregnancy hormone hCG has been detected and
you are likely to be pregnant. It is recommended that you test yourself again in
3-4 days. If the result is still positive, consult your doctor to confirm your
pregnancy and seek advice regarding steps and precautions for a healthy baby and
mother.
What to do if the result is negative?
If the test appears negative the pregnancy hormone hCG has not been detected
and you are probably not pregnant. If you do not get your period within the
following seven days, you should retest with another PREGNOW Pregnancy Test. It
is possible you might have miscalculated your cycle length or your hCG level is
not high enough to be detected. If the second test appears negative and your
period has still not started you should consult your doctor.
How long will it remain visible?
- The test should be read at 5 minutes for best results. A positive result
will never disappear. The coloured line(s) may become darker and a tinted
background may appear after several hours. Some negative results may later
display a faint second colour line because of evaporation from the test
region, which prevents complete migration of the test chemicals. Therefore,
you should not read the result after 10 minutes and discard the test strip
once you have read the test.
Tips for a healthy pregnancy
